Your Transition Team

Mrs J Olver-Duffy – Head of Lower School

Hello Year 6, 

I am so pleased that you will be joining us in September. My name is Mrs Olver-Duffy and I am Head of Lower School. This means that I am responsible for looking after all the pupils in Year 7. I do not do it on my own of course; we have a fantastic team ready to support you.  

I have taught at Cardinal Allen for 10 years now, and I am a former pupil! So many years ago, I was in the position that you are in right now! Starting secondary school can be a scary time, and it might be more daunting for you this year, but I can assure you that we are here to ensure that is goes as smoothly as possible.  

I look forward to meeting you all soon.

I know starting high school can sometimes appear daunting, and no doubt you will have lots of mixed feelings and questions. I want to reassure you I am here to answer all your questions and concerns and help you to settle in at Cardinal Allen.

I want to extend a very warm welcome to you all, and re-assure you that we are here to help and support you as much as we can to settle into your high school as you begin your journey with us.

Miss C Smith – SENDCo

Mrs N Cardwell – SENDCo Assistant

Hello Year 6

My name is Mrs Cardwell, I am the SENDCo Assistant, and I work in the Learning Support Department with Miss Smith. You will quite often see us together in our office and around school.

I am sure that a lot of you are feeling quite nervous at the moment, with everything that is going on, and not being able to come and visit us in high school, before you join in September, and this is understandable.  Let me reassure you that Cardinal Allen a fantastic school and you have made a great choice, we have lots of support, and there are plenty of people here who will help you when you arrive. Just remember, everyone who is starting high school this year, no matter what school they are going to, are likely to be feeling exactly the same as you.

I can’t wait to meet you all when you start, and remember, if you are passing the Learning Support Department office, please pop in and say hi.

Miss C Haughton – Transition and Year 7 Key Worker

Hello! How exciting that you are shortly going to be coming to Cardinal Allen!  My name is Miss Haughton and I am your Year 7 SEN  Keyworker. I work in the Learning Support Department.

Starting at High School can be so much fun, but you might also feel a bit nervous and wonder if you will make friends, or find your way around our school. You perhaps will have questions about support in lessons, or worries about getting homework done.

 I am here to help you settle in, and sort out any concerns you might have about your learning.  You might see me in some of your lessons, and at break and lunch I am always available to chat to. I am also only a phone call away if your parents or carers have any concerns about your learning. 

I hope to see you soon, I know things seem a little strange at the moment but all of us here at Cardi are looking forward to meeting you and supporting you on your exciting new journey with us.
