Social Justice

Service and Social Justice are at the heart of much of what we do as a school community. We are an Eco Ambassador school, one of only 12 schools in the country called upon to set an example and share the concept of stewardship with other schools. In this respect, we have developed a strong cluster of schools in the local area working together, challenging each other to work harder for the protection of our natural environment. Our well-developed Fairtrade status, now FairAchiever, means that pupils and staff work hard to promote the causes of Fairtrade, use Fairtrade products and pray for trade justice throughout the year. We have an enthusiastic and self-sufficient CAFOD team, promoting current CAFOD campaigns, engaging in fundraising and presenting assemblies and workshops. Every year we support the Fleetwood Food Bank at harvest, and invite them to come in and speak to us about their work and the needs of the local community.

Our pupils put a lot of effort into fundraising: as well as regular CAFOD events, each year group chooses a charity to support and at Lent the whole school commits to fundraising for charitable causes. The staff also hold regular coffee mornings for charity and individual colleagues embrace what we are about through a variety of sponsored sporting activities. Over the last three years, our school has raised over £9,000 for charitable causes including CAFOD, Blackpool Food Partnership, Fleetwood Food Bank, Mary’s Meals, Streetlife, Brian House, Trinity Hospice, the British Heart Foundation, Variety Club, Newman School and many others.
